Goodbye Friend

How do you say goodbye to a friend that was so loyal? How do you say goodbye to that one special presence that was always there by your side that made everything better? How do you say goodbye to the one that always loved you no matter what? How do you say goodbye to those eyes that always looked at you with such love, contentment and curiosity especially when you rubbed their belly? How do you say goodbye to the one who always ate animal crackers with you and never judged how many you ate?

We said goodbye to someone just like that...our dear friend Emmette this past New Year's Eve day. Goodbyes are never easy especially when the one you love is on four legs. They are members of your family too and when the time comes for them to leave our world to go onto the next it truly feels like your world has come to an end. Emmette was born a dog but died a gentlemen. Although he was my sister's dog, he was my family too. Hubby and I watched him grow from a little pup into a wise middle age man. My sister was the best mommy and friend to him and his arrival into our family in turn helped her through the death of her husband at such a young age. His love was genuine, his eyes where soulful and his spirit always soared.

My heart is broken at the thought of him no longer being here physically to get kisses from, pet and cuddle with but I know his spirit is flying free in a place filled with even more love and animal crackers than he could ever hope for. We will always love and cherish and remember him as the best dog one could ever want in their family. So we will raise our animal crackers in memory of him from now on...To Emmette...until we see each other again be waiting on the other side to welcome us all Home dear friend.
